Around the world
Lighting
When looking over the video I realized that Michel Gondry's wanted the main event to be shown as best as it could be. When I speak of the main event i am talking about the dancers. The way he did this was by blacking out the background so nothing else can be seen apart from the brightly colored movements created by the dancers. But not only that he decided to make a cycular light from above the dancers to signafiy the world as they dancer in a cycular motion.
Sound
The repeativeness of the backing track makes the song very addictive. This is a great thing for the creator because it will keep the audiences attraction to the track. Also if you listen carfully you can here that they repeat the world 'Around the world' 80 times. This is clever because as everyone knows the first person to go round the world did it in 80 days.
costume
The costumes used are very abstract and have no common factor between each other. This is because each group of characters in the performance means a different instrument, and the best way to showing this is by leaving all common ground. A different reason for the costumes used is that it is a way of deciphering the genre.
Cinematography
The video includes of many different shot types, such as a wide shot to show the whole setting and all the characters involved in the video. Another is the mid shot, this is used to show a individual and is commonly used with a movement. When i say movement i am talking about the use of crabbing and tracking. These are used throughout the video very effectively. Another great movement used is panning, normally panning is used on a still camera but Michel Gondry effectively used panning while crabbing round. This is an amazing effect that shows off good skill.
Each camera shot is focus on one select group for dancers, this informs the viewers that what they are doing is more relevent than the other dancers.
Editing
When it came to the editing or in other words the lack of editing. The reason this is, is because Michel Gondry wanted the video to be different from others. When i say this i mean he was very clever and decided to make the whole video a single shot. This means it was difficult for the dancers because they would need to keep time throughout the 4 minuets, this would take tones of practice. But when looking over the video I can see that there is only one transition used, this is called a cut which is just a quick way of moving from camera to camera.
Release Date
Around the world was released on march 17th in 1997.
Interesting fact
There is a very interesting fact about this music video, which is the way the characters move to the music. The characters rein act the instruments, and are in perfect sync.
Target Audience
After looking over the video a few times, I believe the target audience would be the older more mature audience between the ages of 15 onwards. The reason i think this is because of all the different aspects used. You would also have to be older to appreionate the interesting factors involved in the creating of this good music video.
Motley crue dr feelgood
Lighting
There is Abstract lighting to show off all the different aspects used in the genre. Flame effects and real flames used, the dark lighting is used to highlight this, the contrast between the darkness and flames make the result stand out brighter. Also throughout the music video there is refections of the fire though mirrors and windows.
After looking over the video i can see that it is ment to be set in a huge tent, this means that the only light source is from the fires they have lit round them. But has i looked closer at the drummer i saw that there is one other light source which is the enterance.
Costume
The appearance of the band is very important because is shows the genre. In this case the genre is very clear. The clothing is very extreme and includes of dark tight clothes, gives of ambient ora and makes a satanic look that is fighting for the bands aims. Tight clothing is not all what they do to create there look. Motley Crew also style there hair in a large and wide fashion, which replicated throughout the listener and fans of the band.
Cinematography
Crabbing - the crabbing as been used throughout the production in a smooth motion around the band members. This is good because it helps the audience focus on one band member at a time, but not for long enough to get bored of them.
Panning - I wasn't very impressed with the amount of panning; I wish there had been a lot more.
Zooming -There was a large quantity of zooming. This was used to show the viewers a key point in the production, for example when there is a guitar solo or a key attraction such as the flames used.
Tilting - I only saw a small amount of tilting, but when it was used, it was used in a very effective way. When I say this I mean the way the cameras were angled upwards from below the band members. The reason they did this is because is makes them look impressive and untouchable. I say this because it will make the audience look up to them and want to be more like them.
Mid shots - The mid shot was the most used shot in this music video. I think the reason for this is because it shows most of the band member which is being viewed (it would be pointless just to see half of them)
Close ups - I really liked the use of close ups. They were used over the instruments rather then the people playing them. This is brilliant because you can see the skill the band members have.
long shots - Long shots weren’t really used that much, the only time used was to show the whole band and stage in which they were on.
Transitions
Wayne Isham like the idea of having a close up of the guitars as they were played then effective used a cut transitive to show the guitarist themselves. Also he used fades and cross fades to move from one band member to the other. Overlapping layers is another great effect used; Wayne Isham used this over the guitar solo.
Editing
There is a large amount of editing used in this video, for example the huge amount of slow motion. This is a talented way of making a normal camera shot into something abstract and interesting. Another great piece of editing is the over laying of the picture. I don't know how they did this but what it is, is seeing the same clip and then fading it out and then repeating until you can see the same person three or four time in the same clip.
Genre
Glam rock
when it was made
80's
Who made it
Wayne Isham - from the album Dr Feelgood and it was copyright 1989
Target audience
From looking at the appearance of the band, I’ve decided that the target audience would have to be the younger and more extreme. The reason i think this is because of the outfits and the hair styles. These are get ways to see what the target audience would be, because the listens and fans would replicate the costumes to show that they enjoy and appreciate the band and its genre.
Narrative
The story carries a narrative, it follows a young good looking male, he is shown dealing drugs. The man is shown to be swarve and well off this captures a cool and chiq' look that helps the aim at the target audience.
